Public Entertainments License Inspection & Testing

All local authorities throughout the UK will have different requirements as to the level of Inspection and Testing in order to issue a license for Public Entertainment. Local authorities requirements can and do vary from town to town and may consist of the following:

  • Periodic inspection & testing of the entire electrical installation on a yearly basis
  • Listed circuits from distribution boards on a yearly basis
  • Certain areas of the building/establishment on a yearly basis
  • Combination of a periodic inspection and test of the entire electrical installation and the testing of the entire emergency lighting system on a yearly basis.
  • Certain circuits from distribution boards to include emergency lighting testing to certain areas of the building/establishment on a yearly basis.

The list above is not exhaustive but is based on our experience working with local authorities.

As with Periodic Inspection and Testing and Emergency Lighting Inspection and Testing all electrical installations over a period of time can and will deteriorate. Left unchecked the deterioration will undoubtedly increase to levels that will potentially leave the installation in an unsafe and dangerous condition to however uses the premises.

To meet the fundamental requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, regular inspection and testing will greatly reduce if not eliminate those risks ensuring both a safe working environment for employees and the safe continued use of the premises for public entertainment.

On completion of the Inspection & Testing of an Electrical Installation (to include if applicable) a substantial and comprehensive report will be provided, which will include:

  • Circuit test results
  • Defects & recommendations
  • Circuit charts
  • Schematic drawing of the L.V. Distribution System (subject to contract)
  • Periodic inspection certificate.
  • Emergency Lighting Logbook
  • PPM Logbook
  • Summary
  • Defects/Non-compliances
  • Emergency Lighting Certificate.
